I happened across this place the other day, it’s in Stroud Green about 10 minutes walk from my house and it’s a treasure trove of vintage furniture. More specifically it’s got the best selection of vintage Eames chairs that I’ve seen in ages, having pretty much every variation of Zenith chair.
I love the Zenith and there are loads of them here, on every type of base – rockers, H’s and Eiffels. The lemon yellow rope edge on the original Eiffel base pictured is a thing of utter beauty in my opinion. There’s also a couple of 670 Loungers with matching Ottomans (including a special order from the late 50′s) and plenty of side shells too.
It’s not all Eames though, in terms of pieces by other designers, there’s a pair of 1950′s Eero Sarrinen Womb chairs with matching ottoman (all re-upholstered by Knoll), an Arne Jacobsen (for Fritz Hansen) Egg chair, with original upholstery – yes it’s purple but at least it’s fully original and not some reproduction. There’s loads of other bits too like a Joe Colombo BoBy trolley (and it’s half the price of what the posh furniture shop on Upper Street flogs its repro’s for), plus lighting, soft furnishings and loads of stuff in between. Firefly house is based at 66-68 Stapleton Hall Road, Stroud Green, London. It’s not always open so it’s worth calling ahead if you’re thinking of popping down. It’s more than worth it though as this place is great if you’re a fan of this kind of furniture, plus they’re very helpful and really know what they’re talking about.
